Lito De Veterbo Trail: Across the Philippines from Maira-ira Point to Tinaca Point on foot

LITO DE VETERBO TRAIL

The Lito De Veterbo Trail is a pedestrian route formally established by 55-year-old Filipino mountaineer and environmental advocate Lito De Veterbo upon completion of his traverse of the Philippines on foot, a feat that earned him a Guinness World Record for the fastest crossing of the Philippines on foot while promoting environmental awareness and outdoor ethics.

Spanning approximately 2,300 km, the Lito De Veterbo Trail is defined as a linear, point-to-point traverse trail in the Philippines connecting the northernmost point of Luzon island (Maira-ira Point in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte and the southernmost point of Mindanao island (Tinaca Point in Glan, Sarangani) on foot.

Also known as the Great Philippine Point-to-Point (GP3), the Lito De Veterbo Trail runs mostly along major roads and highways, making it the longest walkable road trail in the Philippines. Featured on this cross-country trail is 99.7% of paved road and 0.3% of dirt trail. It passes through KM 0 in Manila, Bicol region and the eastern part of Visayas.

Challengers can traverse the trail on foot starting from any of the two points. No checkpoints, no passport required. Just connect the two points utilizing low-impact, low-waste practices towards a sustainable, eco-friendly and responsible journey. Use of motorized vehicle is discouraged. For documentation and validation purposes, GPS tracking and contextual photos with visible time and date are necessary but doing so would be on the challenger’s discretion.

Lito De Veterbo Trail is about Low-impact, Low-waste Travel

As a national campaign for environmental awareness, the Lito De Veterbo Trail aims to promote responsible travelling and outdoor ethics by using low-impact, low-waste practices, defining it as a non-motorized route between the northernmost point of Luzon island and southernmost point of Mindanao island in the Philippines. It is not be treated as a race, but rather as a means to convey the message that cross-country travel is possible without causing any damage or disturbance to the places we visit.

Documentation

Documentation is on the discretion of the challenger. However, if he/she intends to create a record of the challenge, it must be done through the use of GPS, providing verifiable kml files that anyone can view. Support documentation would come in the form of contextual photos demonstrating the locations covered, as well as the date and time. If documentation is part of the plan, it would be best to register the journey.

Registration

If a challenger attempts to take on the Lito De Veterbo Trail with full documentation, registration is recommended, although it is not required. Registration means that the attempt would be on record, be verified, and the result would be published for recognition.
